MWC Patners Sholts and Ernesti

05/07/2010

Lake Oahe, Mobridge, SD is hosting the Cabela’s MWC Team Tournament May 8th & 9th...The weather has not been real cooperative for the guys here trying to do alittle pre-fishing for this upcoming event...with Temps in the mid twenties forcast for tomarrow morning, ….brrrr  will they go out?  Or will they delay the launch?  We will have to wait to find out….Excitment is in the air, and everyone fishing this tourney is wondering what they are up against in the next few days out on Lake Oahe…..

Al Sholts, from Alexandria, MN  and his partner Ron Ernesti, from Buffalo, MN.  Are looking forward to fishing this event together.  They are long time friends, and both fish numerous Pro/Am tournaments,  the MWC gave them the chance to head out to one of their favorite fishing destinations, and fish together. “I love resivors” says Al, “and Lake Oahe is a really fun place to fish.”  Al has been able to fish most all of Lake Oahe, as he started fishing out here in the early 80’s.  His favorite way to fish?  “Whatever they are going to bite on ...lol”  There are so many different methods to use out here, and that’s what makes it so much fun! Al, says he has fished early on Oahe in the past, and has experienced both a good, and bad bite, saying ..”It all revolves  around the weather, and where the system is, with the Smelt run and the Spawn.”  He has been here when he had to skirt the ice, and had great fishing……”sometimes it’s a timing thing” says Al “revolving around the weather”.  Pre-fishing has been tough due to the weather conditions, eliminating a lot of the pre-fishing time a lot of guys have wanted to do, but, he said that they marked a lot of fish out there…

Predictions for the tourney?  He  just smiled and said……”We shall see…..this system has the potential for large weights” ….Al has fished some PWT’S, many SD Govnor’s Cups, and lots of Local Tourneys around here.  His partner Ron, fishes the FLW Walleye League (last year leading it) , he also fished the PWT Walleye League for 4 years, and numerous PWT events as a co-angler.

Both AL and Ron’s favorite fishing destination in Minnesota is Mileacs Lake , and Guess where in South Dakota??   You got it!! LAKE OAHE!!!  Both of them say their first trip to Lake Oahe was out of Akaska, SD….(home of the South Dakota Walleye Classic/Festival)  You will find them out on the water in Al’s boat, which is a 620T Ranger w/Evenrude 200, equipped with Lowrance  HDS Electronics….Ron, left his boat at home for this tourney,  but runs the 620T Ranger as well, w/Yamaha 150 4 stroke, and Lowrance Electronics.

Kick off is tomarrow morning…...so head out and Kick some Butt!!!  LOL

Good Luck Everyone!!!!!
